Volunteer

Polaris Charter Academy is grateful to those who volunteer their time and energy to supporting our students in their education.  To make sure our volunteers have a positive impact to Polaris, we offer multiple opportunities for involvement to meet our program needs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Fieldwork Chaperone

Volunteers partner with teachers by chaperoning trips outside the school for students to dive deeper into their studies.  Fieldwork experiences vary from trips to the Museum of Science and Industry for studying the body systems to Humboldt Park for bird-watching to the Chicago River North Branch for testing water quality and more.

Timeframe: Weekday daytime hours, varies.

After School Literacy Program Volunteer

Help students build their vocabulary, expand their imagination, and develop their reading skills by reading interactively with them.

Timeframe: Weekdays at 4-6PM.

Be an Expert

Teachers bring in experts from the field to talk with students about expedition topics. Historians, scientists, and community leaders are just some of the people we introduce to our students so they build their knowledge about the material.

Timeframe: Weekday daytime hours, varies.

Parent Patrol Volunteer

Keep our students safe as they get to and from school! Join us in the mornings and afternoons with our Parent Patrol and together we make sure all students arrive and depart from school safely.

Timeframe: Weekdays from 7:00-8:00AM and/or 4:00-4:30PM.

Event Volunteer

Help make our events successful by working behind the scenes of our events.  Events can include our annual Spring Fundraiser, Associate Board events, basketball games, and band or drama performances.  Activities will vary depending on the event.

Timeframe: Evenings, varies.
