Building Character and a Winning Attitude Through Basketball
Both the Polaris Boys and Girls Basketball teams are in the CPS Conference Playoffs! Families and students, come cheer on your Polaris Polar Bears this Saturday, February 9, at Orr High School (730 N. Pulaski).
The 5/8 Girl Polar Bears play against the Michael Faraday Elementary School Falcons, tip off at 10AM. The 7/8 Polar Bear Boys play McNair, tip off at 11AM. Winners advance to the Regional Conference, which will also be played this same Saturday.
The Girls Basketball team has never been in the playoffs before, and they are excited to compete and represent Polaris. Sakkiyah remarked: “It makes feel good about my whole team to be in the playoffs because it shows that we put in work to get here.” Nikea acknowledged: “It is amazing to do something that I never did before and to overcome challenges. I learned from my mistakes and improved.”
Davious, our tallest Polar Bear on the 7/8 Boys’ team, said: “We play hard and we believe in ourselves. We’re ready!” Zack said: It’s amazing and fun to be in the playoffs. I learned how to play ball better, and I learned how to work as a team.”
When asked what its going to take to win, the boys and girls responded in unison: “Teamwork, a lot of spirit, persistence, leadership, and a lot of heart.”
Athletic Director Martin Hodges proudly proclaimed: “This is Polaris’ first year playing in the CPS League. This is a big deal because we are in the Conference playoffs, and we have an opportunity to be City Champions. Polaris is putting its name on the Chicago map as a powerhouse basketball athletic school.”
