Maternity Leave Classroom Teacher for 7th & 8th Grade Math

Description of Position:

A Polaris Charter Academy educator will:

  • Develop and implement cross-curricular units of study that utilize active pedagogy and expeditionary learning
  • Plan and implement creative, organized and engaging lessons based on Common Core State Standards
  • Differentiate instruction to support all students in the learning process
  • Plan, support, and collaborate with fellow educators and staff
  • Provide an inviting, exciting learning environment

Part-Time Elementary Teaching Assistants

Description of Position:
  • TA will collaborate with lead teacher and assist with classroom administrative tasks
  • TA will assist with instruction in one-on-one, small group, and whole class settings in literacy, math, science, and social studies.
  • TA will assume role as lead teacher when called upon to substitute
  • TA monitors class for recess and lunch
Requirements:
  • Experience working with groups of elementary-age children, preferably in a school setting.
  • Minimum Degree Requirements – Associates Degree or 60 hours of college credit. In lieu of these, a paraprofessional exam may be taken to fulfill this requirement.
  • Effective immediately.
  • Available to work TA hours of 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Monday-Friday.

Classroom Teaching Positions Grades K-8 (Full Time)

  • Design and implement cross-curricular units of study that utilize active pedagogy and expeditionary learning
  • Plan and implement creative, organized and engaging lessons based on the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to support all students in the learning process
  • Plan, support, and collaborate with fellow educators and staff
  • Utilize the readers and writers workshop approach to teaching literacy
  • Provide an inviting, exciting learning environment
An ideal candidate is someone who:
  • Has demonstrated strong classroom and time management skills
  • Is committed to meeting the needs of every child in a diverse population and has demonstrated success working with urban students
  • Believes every child can learn and reach high levels of academic achievement
  • Has a clear understanding of curriculum, instruction, and child development
  • Has a proven ability to work as a member of a team with a commitment to his/her own learning and professional development
  • Has experience designing and implementing readers and writers workshop within a balanced literacy curriculum
  • Has the capacity to teach mathematics and science using inquiry-based and hands-on methodology
  • Believes children can make a significant contribution to the school, community, and the world
  • Understands that family involvement is integral to student success
  • Wants to be part of an organized, professional learning community
  • Is a self-starter interested in working in a fast-paced, start-up environment that requires flexible roles
Applicants should possess the following knowledge and experience:
  • A degree in education or equivalent
  • Three or more years of classroom teaching experience
  • Teaching certification is required
  • Those interested in the Kindergarten and Primary positions should have background and experience in early childhood.
  • State endorsement to teach in content area (math, social studies, science, language arts) for middle school grades (5th — 8th).
