Support Student Fieldwork to Birmingham, Alabama

As part of their Learning Expedition that explores the Civil Rights Movement and how one can effect change, Polaris 5/6 graders go on fieldwork to Birmingham, Alabama, to experience history from the people who lived it. Students meet and interview Foot Soldiers from the 1963 Children’s March at Kelly Ingram Park, and they explore history with experts at the 16th Street Baptist Church. This fieldwork in Birmingham is life-changing as Polaris students find their voice and realize the power children have to be active citizens and effect change. Polaris students learn that children can make a difference, and they return to Polaris ready to make their world better.
