What’s the BUZZ at Polaris?

In the spring of 2011, Polaris 1st and 2nd grade students were true detectives in their quest to uncover the importance of bees to the local ecological system.

Through their research, students learned about the physiology of the honeybee, the role of each type of honeybee within the hive and the impact of honeybees on the pollination process.

Garfield Park Conservatory partnered with Polaris 1st and 2nd graders, serving as the home for a live hive. Through close examination of live bees, students created scientific drawings of honeybees, which were used as illustration of their learning in a 2012 Calendar. Click here to see an example!
